Revision surgery, explained without blame

Thread Lift Pros and Cons

A thread lift is easier to judge as a set of trade-offs, with one more question attached: what can you do before treatment to lower the chance of needing a correction?

Pros and cons measured against your goals

A list of pros and cons is only useful when it matches your own goals. A feature that matters to one person may not matter to another. Write down what you want first, then use the lists below to test it.

Pros to check

  • Ask whether the treatment is less invasive than the alternatives you are weighing, and what that means in practice.
  • Ask whether the recovery plan fits your calendar.
  • Ask whether it can be a first step before something larger.

Cons to check

  • Ask how long the result is expected to last and what happens after that.
  • Ask what can go wrong and how the office handles it.
  • Ask whether a correction or removal is possible and what it involves.

Other ways to refresh the face

For other ways to refresh the face, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery page on facial rejuvenation is a useful companion.

Thread lift worries and the question for each

  • If you worry about looking different from what you pictured, ask how the plan is shown to you before treatment.
  • If you worry about discomfort, ask what to expect in the days afterward and what is normal.
  • If you worry about a poor result, ask what the correction path is and who pays for it.
  • If you worry about the choice of provider, ask about training and how many of these treatments the provider does.

More procedures to compare

See the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery procedures page. Use it to learn what other options exist and to build your question list.

Learning from other facial procedures

Other facial lifts have their own patient guides. One example is the Cleveland Clinic page on nonsurgical facelift, including its options and benefits. There is also an American Society of Plastic Surgeons page of facelift questions. Both show how to read an explanation of a related procedure.

Testing a thread lift against your goal

Decide what you want first, test it against the pros and cons above, and take the questions to a licensed provider. Ask for the correction plan before you agree.
